The Minority/Woman-Owned Business (MOB/WOB) Initiative from NASA was developed to enable companies to work with NASA to facilitate the transfer of NASA technologies, resources, and expertise to the private sector, in order for companies to improve and expand their existing products and services.
The federally mandated Enterprise Communities and Empowerment Zones program, enacted into law in 1993, recognizes the importance of a bottom-up revitalization. The process fosters opportunity to build private enterprise in these communities. The goal of the project is to identify and interact with the minority/woman-owned technology companies. NASA would eventually want these companies to become a permanent client for NASA technology transfer. To meet this goal, projects are initiated with a number companies in these Enterprise Communities and Empowerment Zones.
